CHICAGO - A Chicago-area music producer and his singer client have filed a federal lawsuit against the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas, accusing the Grammy winners of plagiarism.

According to the lawsuit filed this week by producer Manfred Mohr, of Aurora, Ill., parts of the Black Eyed Peas' 2009 hit, "Boom Boom Pow," are taken from "Boom Dynamite," written by Mohr and singer Ebony Latrice Batts, who performs as the Phoenix Phenom.

The lawsuit says Mohr submitted a copy of "Boom Dynamite" to executives at Interscope Records, the Black Eyed Peas' record label, 14 months before the Black Eyed Peas released "Boom Boom Pow." It contends the hit song has many similarities to "Boom Dynamite," particularly in its hook sections.
